Ceramic coating: what it does, and the warranty position
A coating is a chemical layer, not a physical barrier. It will not stop a stone — that is what film is for. What it does is change the surface so that water beads and runs off, dirt releases easily, and bird droppings, tree sap and road film have a much harder time reaching the paint and a much easier time coming off it.
Around here that matters most for two exposures film cannot touch: marine salt air on Sound-side cars in Larchmont, Mamaroneck, Rye, Old Greenwich, Riverside, Darien and Westport, and tree canopy in Scarsdale, New Canaan, Tenafly and Demarest, where sap and droppings etch clearcoat if they sit on a warm panel.
Warranty
We fit the XPEL FUSION PLUS range, which covers paint, satin finishes, wheels and calipers, glass, plastic and trim, and upholstery. The warranty term depends on which product goes on your car, so we confirm it in writing for the specific product at booking rather than quoting a single number that may not apply. Registration is required, and we register every car.
The point worth knowing: XPEL lists non-XPEL ceramic coatings applied over XPEL paint protection film as an exclusion to the film warranty. FUSION PLUS is explicitly fine over it. If you have film from one shop and coating from another in a different brand, you may have put a question mark on a ten-year warranty for no benefit. We do both here, in XPEL products, on one work order.
Honest limits
A coating does not make a car scratch-proof; it raises surface hardness modestly and will not survive a brush wash or a curb. It is lower maintenance, not maintenance-free. And it is only as good as the preparation — coating a car with swirl marks in it locks those marks under a hard, durable layer for the life of the coating, which is why every car we coat is decontaminated, inspected under proper lighting and corrected where it needs it.
