What a manufacturer certification actually means

A manufacturer certification is not advertising a shop can buy. It is a designation granted by the automaker, and it carries obligations that are reviewed on an ongoing basis. In general terms, a certified collision facility has to maintain four things.

• Access to published repair procedures. The shop subscribes to the manufacturer’s own technical documentation and pulls the current procedure for your specific vehicle before the repair plan is written — which panels may be sectioned and exactly where, which must be replaced whole, which fasteners are single-use, what torque and cure specifications apply, and which modules need to be initialized or calibrated afterward.
• Trained technicians. Structural repair, welding, refinish and, for electrified vehicles, high-voltage handling each carry their own coursework, renewed as vehicle construction changes.
• Specified equipment. Measuring systems and anchoring, welders matched to the steel grades in the vehicle, riveting and bonding tooling, dedicated aluminum equipment, and scan and calibration hardware.
• Genuine parts. Certification is built around repairing the vehicle with the parts it was engineered and crash-tested with.

Why this matters to an owner is simple. A modern vehicle is a designed crash structure made from several grades of steel, aluminum and adhesive, wrapped in sensors. A quarter panel is not just sheet metal, and a bumper cover hides radar. A repair that looks correct can still leave the vehicle unable to perform the way it was engineered to perform the next time it is hit. Certification is how you tell, from the outside, that a shop is working from the manufacturer’s instructions rather than from general practice.

Our manufacturer certifications

Jaguar Land Rover, including aluminum structural repair

Land Rover, Range Rover and Jaguar bodies are built largely from bonded and riveted aluminum rather than welded steel. That changes the repair completely. Aluminum work requires its own tooling and a work area separated from steel, because steel particles settling on bare aluminum set up galvanic corrosion that works outward from under the paint and does not become visible until the panel is already compromised. Structural joints rely on self-piercing rivets of a specified type and on structural adhesive with defined surface preparation and cure requirements, not on spot welds. Heat has to be controlled tightly, because aluminum loses strength at temperatures that would not trouble steel and gives no color warning as it does so.

This certification covers Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Range Rover Velar, Range Rover Evoque, Defender, Discovery and Discovery Sport, along with the Jaguar F-PACE, E-PACE, I-PACE, XE and XF.

Rivian

Rivian vehicles combine a high-voltage battery pack carried in the floor structure with a mixed-material body. Work near the pack begins only after the high-voltage system has been shut down and verified de-energized following Rivian’s procedure, and finishes with diagnostic verification before the vehicle goes back to its owner.

Genesis

Covers the G70, G80 and G90 sedans and the GV60, GV70 and GV80 SUVs, including the battery electric Electrified G80 and GV60. Genesis bodies combine high-strength and ultra-high-strength steel with aluminum, and the joining method changes with the material.

Nissan and Infiniti

Covers the Infiniti QX50, QX55, QX60, QX80, Q50 and Q60, and the Nissan Rogue, Murano, Pathfinder, Altima, Sentra, Frontier, Titan, Z, Ariya and Leaf. Households running one of each brand can use a single facility for both.

Kia

Covers the EV6, EV9, Telluride, Sorento, Sportage, Carnival, K5, Seltos, Niro and Soul. The EV6 and EV9 are built on the E-GMP platform, which carries the battery pack within the floor structure, so damage along the rocker or underbody is assessed against documented criteria rather than by appearance.

Stellantis: Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram

Covers Jeep Grand Cherokee, Wrangler, Wrangler 4xe, Wagoneer, Grand Wagoneer, Gladiator and Compass; Ram 1500, 2500, 3500 and ProMaster; Dodge Durango, Charger, Challenger and Hornet; and Chrysler Pacifica and Pacifica Hybrid. Ram trucks, the Wrangler and the Gladiator are body-on-frame vehicles, which makes frame measurement against factory control points a different discipline from unibody repair.

XPEL Certified Installer

Paint protection film, including full front, track package and full vehicle coverage, and color change work. Color changes here are done in paint protection film rather than vinyl. To our knowledge, no other shop in the tri-state area has applied paint protection film to more Porsche 911s than we have.

Certification attaches to the facility, but the work is done by people. Our technicians hold individual manufacturer and industry training certifications across structural repair, welding, refinish and high-voltage handling, and those credentials are renewed as vehicle construction changes. High-end vehicles we repair without holding the manufacturer’s certification

Our OEM parts policy

We repair with OEM parts only, meaning new parts from the dealer. We tell insurers that up front, at the start of the claim, so it does not become an argument later. If an insurer denies OEM, our first move is to find a way to make it work for you without you paying out of pocket. If that is not possible, we call you, explain the situation plainly, and decide together how to proceed. Aftermarket parts are very rare here and used only in special circumstances.

Paint protection film warranty

On film we install, we cover all labor for any issue that pertains to the installation, including lifting or marks. XPEL’s own warranty also follows the film, which matters if you move out of state. What is not covered is impact damage — rocks, road debris, or something striking the film, which is the film doing its job.

We suggest a check-up about two weeks after installation on cars that receive clear film, because if lifting is going to happen it almost always happens in the first two weeks. Once the film has cured it very rarely lifts.

We work with luxury car dealers throughout Westchester and in Greenwich, Connecticut, and directly with vehicle owners. From New Rochelle we serve Scarsdale, Bronxville, Larchmont, Mamaroneck, Rye, Pelham, Eastchester, Tuckahoe, White Plains, Harrison, Yonkers and the surrounding Lower Westchester communities, along with nearby Connecticut and the Bronx. Which manufacturers is Enthusiast Auto Works certified by?

Jaguar Land Rover, including aluminum structural repair, plus Rivian, Genesis, Infiniti, Nissan, Kia and Stellantis, which covers Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram. We are also an XPEL Certified Installer for paint protection film.

Is Enthusiast Auto Works a certified Land Rover collision center?

Yes. We are a certified Jaguar Land Rover collision repair facility, including aluminum structural repair, which is the part that matters most on Range Rover and Land Rover bodies. The certification covers Jaguar vehicles as well.

Are you a certified BMW, Mercedes-Benz or Porsche shop?

No. We are not certified by BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Audi, Tesla, Lexus, Volvo, Lucid or the exotic marques. We repair those cars, using published manufacturer repair procedures and OEM parts, and our technicians hold certifications, but we will not claim a manufacturer certification we do not have.

Do you use OEM parts?

We repair with OEM parts only, new from the dealer, and we tell insurers so before the estimate is written. If an insurer denies OEM we work first to resolve it without any out-of-pocket cost to you, and if that cannot be arranged we call you and decide together. Aftermarket is very rare and only in special circumstances.

Do you repair aluminum bodies?

Yes. Aluminum structural repair is part of our Jaguar Land Rover certification, and aluminum panels appear on many of the other brands we are certified for. Aluminum is handled with dedicated tooling kept separate from steel work so that steel particles never contaminate an aluminum surface and start galvanic corrosion under the paint.

Do you work on electric vehicles?

Yes. We are certified for Rivian, and for the electric models within the Genesis, Kia and Nissan ranges. High-voltage work follows the manufacturer’s shutdown procedure before any body work begins, and the vehicle receives diagnostic verification before it is returned.

Do you recalibrate driver assistance systems after a repair?

Yes, when the repair affects them. Cameras, radar units and parking sensors mounted in windshields, grilles, bumpers and mirrors are aimed to fractions of a degree, so reinstalling them is not the same as calibrating them. Depending on the system that means a static calibration performed in the shop against manufacturer targets, a dynamic calibration driven on the road, or both.

Do I have to use the shop my insurance company recommends?

No. In New York the vehicle owner chooses the repair facility. An insurer may recommend shops in its network, which is normal, but a recommendation is not a requirement. Coverage details vary by policy, so it is worth confirming the specifics with your insurer.
