Larchmont is the town next door. From our door on Plain Ave to Palmer Avenue is a few minutes, which makes us about as local as a collision shop gets for a Larchmont car — close enough that you can drop the car and walk to the train if you need to.

It is also a village where the streets were laid out long before anyone imagined a Range Rover would be a normal family car, and that shows up in the kind of damage we see.

Narrow streets, and what they do to bodywork

Larchmont Manor. The lanes down through the Manor are genuinely narrow, with mature trees, stone walls and cars parked on both sides. Mirror strikes, door edges and rubbed quarter panels are routine. Add a hedge or a gatepost on a tight turn and you have a rocker panel and a wheel arch.

Palmer Avenue and Chatsworth Avenue. Parallel parking along a busy village street with people pulling in and out all day. The classic Larchmont repair is a scuffed and dented door or rear quarter from someone else’s bumper, plus a mirror.

The Boston Post Road. US-1 through Larchmont carries real volume with frequent turning conflicts into driveways and side streets. This is where the faster, more serious impacts happen — and where an airbag deployment stops being hypothetical.

The station and the commuter lots. Tight spaces, everyone in a hurry at 7:40am. Bumper corners.

Winter on the side streets. Narrow roads plus snowbanks equals a shrinking driving surface, and the number of low-speed scrapes climbs every January.

Why a minor scuff is not a minor repair any more

This is the thing Larchmont customers are most often surprised by. A bumper cover on a current BMW, Mercedes, Volvo or Range Rover is not a piece of trim — it is the mounting structure for ultrasonic parking sensors, frequently for corner radar, and sometimes for a camera. Remove it, replace it or repaint it and the systems behind it may need recalibrating to the manufacturer’s published procedure.

Skipping that step is easy, invisible and common. A miscalibrated system usually does not warn you; it just behaves incorrectly. We pre-scan and post-scan every vehicle and give you both reports. The full explanation is in ADAS calibration after a collision.

The other surprise is paint. Premium metallics and the multi-stage whites and reds will not match at a hard panel edge. Blending into the adjacent undamaged panel is what makes a repair invisible in daylight — it is standard practice, not padding.

What we are actually certified for

Enthusiast Auto Works holds manufacturer auto body certification with Land Rover, Jaguar, Rivian, Genesis, Infiniti, Nissan, Kia and Stellantis (Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, RAM, Fiat), and we are an XPEL certified installer. Every other premium marque — BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Audi, Bentley, Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, Maserati, Rolls-Royce, Tesla, Lexus, Volvo and the rest — we repair to the manufacturer’s published procedure using our technicians’ own certifications and our equipment. We do not claim brand certifications we do not hold, and you can ask to see any of them.

Dropping the car off

55B Plain Ave, New Rochelle. From Larchmont it is a straight run down the Post Road or a couple of minutes off the Hutchinson River Parkway at exit 16. We will coordinate a tow directly if the car is not drivable — and if it has already been towed somewhere after an accident, call us before it sits, because storage charges accrue by the day and the choice of repair shop is yours under New York law, not the tow operator’s and not your insurer’s.

Common questions from Larchmont customers

Someone clipped my mirror on a Manor street and drove off. Is that worth claiming?

On a car with a blind-spot camera or a power-folding heated unit, a mirror assembly is rarely cheap, and the camera in it needs calibrating after replacement. Get the estimate before deciding — the number is usually higher than people expect.

Do I have to use the shop my insurer recommends?

No. Under New York Insurance Law § 2610 the choice is entirely yours. They can suggest; they cannot require.

Can I leave the car and take the train?

Yes. That is one of the practical advantages of being the next village over.

How long will it take?

A bumper and a panel is usually days. Structural work is weeks, and most of that is insurer approval and parts rather than labor. We explain the real timeline in how long collision repair takes.

Will the repair show up when I sell the car?

The claim will appear on vehicle history services, and a thorough inspection will find non-original panels. That is precisely why the repair should be documented and done with the right parts — and why diminished value is worth asking about.

Useful reading before you call your insurer

Enthusiast Auto Works, 55B Plain Ave, New Rochelle, NY 10801. Call (914) 630-1668 or send us the details below and we will come back to you.

We repair with OEM parts. Only.

Enthusiast Auto Works fits new original parts from the manufacturer’s dealer network. Not “like kind and quality”, not aftermarket copies, not a used panel off a donor car. Barring genuinely exceptional circumstances, that is what goes on your vehicle.

We also tell your insurer this before the estimate is written, rather than arguing about it afterwards. That one step is the reason it is rare for the question to become a fight at all.

Why it matters more than it sounds:

  • Structural parts are engineered, not shaped. Reinforcement bars, crush cans, rails and radiator supports are designed to deform in a particular sequence at a particular load. A part that looks identical and deforms differently changes how the car protects you in the next collision — and nothing about the finished repair would reveal it.
  • Sensors are measured in millimeters. Radar sits behind bumper covers and grilles, cameras sit in windshields and mirrors. If the mounting geometry is slightly off, calibration either fails or succeeds against the wrong reference. The second outcome is the dangerous one.
  • Fit, coating and corrosion. Panel gaps, steel thickness and factory corrosion protection differ on copies. You see the gap immediately; you see the corrosion in three winters.
  • Resale. A documented aftermarket panel is something a serious buyer’s inspector finds and prices in. On a premium car that is real money.

If your insurer pushes back. Most estimates arrive with aftermarket substitutions already written in. We write the supplement from the manufacturer’s published repair procedure with the relevant pages attached and make the case for the original part — documented procedure moves adjusters in a way that opinion does not. If a carrier still will not pay, our first move is to find a way to make the repair work without you going out of pocket. If we cannot, we call you, explain exactly where the claim stands, and you make the decision. What does not happen is an aftermarket part going quietly onto your car while you find out later.
