White Plains is the busiest place in Westchester to drive, and it has the damage statistics to match. It is the county seat, a retail destination, an office district and a major Metro-North hub, all compressed into a small downtown with a ring of parking structures around it. Most of what we repair from White Plains happened within a mile of Main Street, at under ten miles an hour.

We are about twenty minutes south in New Rochelle.

Parking garages are the White Plains hazard

Downtown White Plains is a multi-story parking town. That environment produces a specific catalog of damage, and if you drive here regularly you will recognize most of it:

Structural columns. The classic long scrape down a door and rear quarter, usually while maneuvering into a corner space. Multiple panels, shallow damage, and a repair that lives or dies on the paint blend rather than the bodywork.

Low ceilings and pipework. Roof rails, antenna fins and the occasional scraped roof on a taller SUV. Range Rovers, X5s and Q7s are the usual victims.

Ramps and speed bumps. Front splitters, lower bumper lips and underbody trays.

Tight bays. Door edges from the car alongside, mirror housings from the car opposite. On a modern car the mirror frequently houses a blind-spot camera, which means replacement is a calibration job rather than a swap.

The exit gates. Bumper corners, scraped wheels.

And the roads around it

The I-287 and Bronx River Parkway interchange. Short merges, heavy volume, abrupt slowdowns. This is where the faster, structural damage happens.

Mamaroneck Avenue. Constant turning traffic, on-street parking, pedestrians, and a busy evening economy.

Main Street and the streets around the station. Buses, taxis, rideshare pickups and commuters in a hurry twice a day.

The retail approaches. The surface lots and garages around the shopping district, particularly through November and December, are responsible for a remarkable share of the county’s bumper work.

Long shallow damage is a paint problem, not a dent problem

This is worth understanding before you get estimates, because it explains why two quotes for the same scrape can differ so much.

A scrape running across three panels is rarely structurally serious. What makes it expensive is matching. Premium metallics will not match at a hard panel edge — the flake orientation shifts and the eye picks it up instantly in daylight. A correct repair blends the color into the adjacent undamaged panels, which means painting more of the car than was damaged. A cheaper quote that sprays only the damaged panels is not saving you money; it is producing a repair you will see every time you walk up to the car.

The second factor is what is behind the panel. Bumper covers carry ultrasonic sensors and frequently corner radar; disturb them and the system needs recalibrating to the manufacturer’s published procedure. We pre-scan and post-scan every vehicle and give you both reports — see ADAS calibration after a collision.

What we are actually certified for

Enthusiast Auto Works holds manufacturer auto body certification with Land Rover, Jaguar, Rivian, Genesis, Infiniti, Nissan, Kia and Stellantis (Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, RAM, Fiat), and we are an XPEL certified installer. Every other premium marque — BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Audi, Bentley, Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, Maserati, Rolls-Royce, Tesla, Lexus, Volvo and the rest — we repair to the manufacturer’s published procedure using our technicians’ own certifications and our equipment. We do not claim brand certifications we do not hold, and you can ask to see any of them.

Hit-and-run in a garage

Very common here, and worth knowing how to handle. Photograph the car and its position before you move it. Note the level, the bay number and the time. Many downtown garages have camera coverage, and a written request early is far more likely to succeed than one made a two weeks later.

If no responsible party is identified, it is a comprehensive claim if you carry comprehensive, and your deductible applies. Get a proper estimate before you decide — a rear bumper with radar behind it routinely costs more than people assume.

Getting here from White Plains

55B Plain Ave, New Rochelle. The Hutchinson River Parkway south to exit 16, or the Bronx River Parkway to the Cross County. We will arrange a tow if the car is not drivable, and if it has already been towed, call before it sits in a yard — storage accrues daily, and under New York law the choice of shop is yours.

Common questions from White Plains customers

Someone hit my car in a garage and left. Can anything be done?

Ask the garage for camera footage immediately, in writing. Otherwise it is a comprehensive claim against your own policy.

Why does the quote include panels that were not damaged?

Because the color will not match at a hard edge. Blending into the adjacent panel is what makes the repair invisible.

Is a long scrape worth claiming?

Sometimes, sometimes not. Multi-panel refinishing adds up quickly, so get the figure before deciding against it.

My lease is ending. Does this need fixing?

Almost certainly. Lease-end inspections are specific about paint and panel condition, and the chargeback usually exceeds the repair.

Do you work on my make?

We repair every premium marque, and we are certified with Land Rover, Jaguar, Rivian, Genesis, Infiniti, Nissan, Kia and Stellantis. There is a page for each marque.

Useful reading before you call your insurer

Enthusiast Auto Works, 55B Plain Ave, New Rochelle, NY 10801. Call (914) 630-1668 or send us the details below and we will come back to you.

We repair with OEM parts. Only.

Enthusiast Auto Works fits new original parts from the manufacturer’s dealer network. Not “like kind and quality”, not aftermarket copies, not a used panel off a donor car. Barring genuinely exceptional circumstances, that is what goes on your vehicle.

We also tell your insurer this before the estimate is written, rather than arguing about it afterwards. That one step is the reason it is rare for the question to become a fight at all.

Why it matters more than it sounds:

  • Structural parts are engineered, not shaped. Reinforcement bars, crush cans, rails and radiator supports are designed to deform in a particular sequence at a particular load. A part that looks identical and deforms differently changes how the car protects you in the next collision — and nothing about the finished repair would reveal it.
  • Sensors are measured in millimeters. Radar sits behind bumper covers and grilles, cameras sit in windshields and mirrors. If the mounting geometry is slightly off, calibration either fails or succeeds against the wrong reference. The second outcome is the dangerous one.
  • Fit, coating and corrosion. Panel gaps, steel thickness and factory corrosion protection differ on copies. You see the gap immediately; you see the corrosion in three winters.
  • Resale. A documented aftermarket panel is something a serious buyer’s inspector finds and prices in. On a premium car that is real money.

If your insurer pushes back. Most estimates arrive with aftermarket substitutions already written in. We write the supplement from the manufacturer’s published repair procedure with the relevant pages attached and make the case for the original part — documented procedure moves adjusters in a way that opinion does not. If a carrier still will not pay, our first move is to find a way to make the repair work without you going out of pocket. If we cannot, we call you, explain exactly where the claim stands, and you make the decision. What does not happen is an aftermarket part going quietly onto your car while you find out later.
