Saddle River is a deliberate trip from our shop in New Rochelle — about fifty minutes over the Mario Cuomo Bridge, or through the George Washington Bridge and up the Garden State Parkway. We are not going to pretend that is convenient. Saddle River owners come to us for the same reason they come from Greenwich and Alpine: we are a collision repair facility that fits film, which means the car gets one set of hands for paint, panel and protection rather than three.

What damages paint in Saddle River

The driveways. Two-acre zoning means long private drives, and in Saddle River a great many of them are gravel, crushed stone or Belgian block, under mature canopy. This is the single most under-appreciated source of paint damage on a car kept here. Every trip in and out throws stone at the lower bumper, the rockers and the rear quarters at walking pace. Done several hundred times a year, for years, it produces exactly the haze of small chips along the sills that owners cannot point to a cause for. Rocker, lower door and rear arch coverage earns its place on a Saddle River car more clearly than on a car kept on a concrete pad in a town.

Route 17 and the Garden State Parkway. Both within a couple of miles, both carrying heavy commercial traffic, both sanded hard in winter. Trucks throw larger debris than cars, from higher up, and they throw it furthest under acceleration off a ramp. A Saddle River car that uses Route 17 regularly collects a peppered bumper and a leading hood edge going matte.

East Allendale Road, Chestnut Ridge and the borough roads. Narrow, wooded, walled in places, with no shoulder. Overhanging branches scuff roofs and mirror caps; putting a wheel into the verge to pass throws grit at the rockers.

Canopy. Sap and bird damage on hoods and roofs from spring through autumn. Both acidic, both capable of etching clearcoat if they sit through a hot afternoon. Film does not address that; ceramic coating over the film does.

The cars

Saddle River has a genuine collector population and a lot of cars in colors that cannot be touched in. That is the thing that changes the calculation. On a standard metallic, a chip is a nuisance. On a bespoke or heritage color it means a panel respray and a blend into the adjacent panels, and the car is never quite original again.

What we fit

The daily car: full front in XPEL Ultimate Plus — entire bumper, entire hood, full fenders, mirrors and headlights — plus rockers, lower doors and rear arches for the driveway, and ceramic coating over the horizontal panels for the trees.

The collector or weekend car: full body, because film comes off cleanly and leaves the original paint underneath, and a respray never comes off at all.

Satin and frozen finishes: XPEL STEALTH. Matte paint cannot be polished, so once it is marked it stays marked, and STEALTH is the only way to protect it without changing how it looks.

Color change is done as XPEL COLOR film rather than vinyl — eight mil, self-healing, sixteen gloss and satin finishes, a ten-year warranty, protecting the paint underneath rather than merely covering it.

Why the drive

Film seals in whatever is beneath it for as long as it is on the car, so correction comes first, under proper lighting, every time. Where a panel genuinely needs repainting before film, that happens in our building on a cure schedule we control, and we repair exclusively with OEM parts — new parts from the manufacturer dealer network. If a filmed car takes a hit later, we can repair the panel and reinstate the film properly, which is a conversation most installers cannot have with you.

We hold factory certifications for Land Rover, Jaguar, Rivian, Genesis, Infiniti, Nissan, Kia and Stellantis, and we repair every other premium marque that comes in. For a car you would rather not drive across a bridge, ask us about collection. See also Alpine.

Send photos and tell us what you drive, where it lives and how you use it, or just bring it down. We will tell you what we would cover on your car and what we would leave alone. There is no benefit to us in selling you film you do not need.
