XPEL Paint Protection Film in Pelham, NY

Pelham and Pelham Manor are about seven minutes from our shop, which makes us effectively the local option. It also means we see a lot of Pelham cars, and the damage pattern here is unusually consistent, because of one geographical fact: Pelham sits between the Hutchinson River Parkway and I-95, with both within roughly a mile of most of the village.

Two highways and a lot of stone

The Hutch. A 1920s parkway with narrow lanes, tight shoulders, stone-faced bridges and a heavy winter sanding schedule that gets swept up slowly. From February to April, following anything at ordinary spacing on the Hutch is a sandblasting exercise. The damage lands on the leading edge of the hood, the mirror backs, the A-pillar bases and the lower bumper.

I-95. Exits 13 through 15 carry serious truck volume, and trucks throw larger debris than cars do. A Pelham car that commutes in either direction collects a peppered bumper and a matte leading hood edge inside two or three winters. That is the most common reason a car from here ends up on our lift.

The Boston Post Road runs the length of the village and is resurfaced in sections, throwing loose aggregate for weeks each time.

Driveways, walls and older garages

Pelham Heights and Pelham Manor are full of houses built long before cars were this wide. Stone walls set right at the curb line, narrow driveway entrances, split-rail edging, and garages sized for a 1950s sedan. The result is the classic set of damage that has nothing to do with driving: rocker panel scrapes, lower door marks, scuffed outer wheel arches and door edges that have met a garage frame.

On a Pelham car, coverage below the beltline earns its place. A nose-only package leaves the parts of the car that are actually getting hit unprotected.

What we fit

Full front in XPEL Ultimate Plus as the starting point — whole bumper, whole hood, full fenders, mirrors and headlights, no line across the hood. The topcoat self-heals, so light wash swirls close up in warm weather instead of building up.

Then, for most Pelham cars, the high-impact set: rockers, lower doors, rear wheel arches, door cups and door edges. Given the walls and the garages, this is not a theoretical addition here.

For a matte or frozen factory finish, XPEL STEALTH is the only option that does not change the look, and that paint cannot be polished once marked. For color change we use XPEL COLOR film rather than vinyl: eight mil, self-healing, sixteen gloss and satin finishes, a ten-year warranty, and it protects the paint underneath instead of merely hiding it.

Correction before film

Whatever is in the paint when the film goes on stays there. Every car is decontaminated and inspected under proper lighting first, and corrected where it needs it, because sealing swirl marks under film for a decade is a worse outcome than no film at all.

Because we are a collision repair facility rather than a detail business, the awkward cases stay in one building. A chip through to primer, a bumper resprayed elsewhere, a panel that genuinely needs repainting first — we do that here and control the cure schedule, so the film goes on when the paint is ready. If a filmed car takes a hit later, we repair the panel and reinstate the film properly.
