An aluminium Land Rover is not a body-shop job
Enthusiast Auto Works is a Jaguar Land Rover Certified Collision Repair Center in New Rochelle, New York, serving Westchester, the Bronx, Manhattan, lower Fairfield County and Bergen County. That certification is the reason your Range Rover, Defender, Discovery, Velar, F-PACE or F-TYPE should not go to whichever shop your insurer names first.
Here is what actually changes when a modern Land Rover is damaged.
The body is aluminium, and aluminium does not behave like steel
Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Defender, Discovery and most of the current Jaguar range use aluminium-intensive monocoque structures. Aluminium work-hardens rather than stretching, so it cannot simply be pulled back the way a steel panel can — past a certain point it cracks instead of returning. Joints are riveted and structurally bonded rather than welded, and the adhesive has a defined cure schedule that has to be followed to the letter for the joint to carry the load it was designed to carry.
It also cannot share a room with steel. Steel dust settling on bare aluminium causes galvanic corrosion that shows up months later as bubbling under fresh paint. A certified facility has a physically separated aluminium repair area with its own dedicated tooling, extraction and consumables — that separation is not a nicety, it is the whole point.
What the certification actually requires
JLR’s certification programme is not a sticker. To hold it, a facility has to demonstrate and maintain:
- A dedicated, isolated aluminium repair environment with its own tools, so steel and aluminium particulate never mix.
- JLR-specified equipment — calibrated self-piercing rivet guns, aluminium MIG and pulse welding capability, structural bonding systems, dent-repair and straightening equipment approved for aluminium.
- Technicians trained and re-certified to JLR procedure, working to the current factory repair methods rather than to generic collision training.
- Access to JLR technical information, so every repair follows the published procedure for that specific VIN rather than a technician’s best guess.
- Genuine Jaguar Land Rover parts for structural repair.
- Periodic audit — the certification is re-verified, not granted once.
ADAS: the part nobody sees on the estimate
A current Range Rover carries forward-facing camera and radar, surround-view cameras, blind-spot and cross-traffic radar, parking sensors and, depending on specification, a driver-condition monitor. Replace a windscreen, a bumper cover, a mirror, a grille or a wheel-alignment setting and one or more of those systems needs documented recalibration before the car is safe to drive.
This is the most commonly skipped step in the industry, because it takes a level floor, the correct targets, the manufacturer’s software and time. We calibrate to JLR procedure and give you the report. If a shop cannot hand you calibration documentation after a front-end repair, the repair is not finished.
Paint on an aluminium panel
Aluminium needs its own primers and its own surface preparation — the etch and adhesion chemistry that works over steel does not transfer. Add JLR’s more difficult finishes (the metallics, the satin-finish options, the special-order colours) and colour matching becomes a spectrophotometer-and-spray-out-card exercise rather than a code lookup. We refinish in a downdraft booth, blend into adjacent panels rather than stopping at a seam, and check the match in daylight before the car is reassembled.
How the repair runs
- Tell us before you tell your insurer, if you can. We can arrange the tow directly, which keeps the car from sitting at a storage yard billing your claim by the day.
- Teardown and damage analysis. Very little structural damage is visible with the panels on. We disassemble first, photograph everything, and pull the JLR repair procedure for your VIN before we write a number.
- We handle the insurer. We write the estimate, submit supplements after teardown, and negotiate directly with your carrier — any carrier, network or not. Under New York Insurance Law § 2610 the choice of shop is yours, and your insurer cannot require you to use one of its network shops.
- Structural repair, then panel, then refinish. To procedure, with genuine parts, in the aluminium-dedicated area where the work belongs.
- Calibration and quality control. ADAS recalibration with documentation, road test, and a final inspection under proper light.
- Protection, if you want it. We are also an XPEL Certified Installer, so the car can go from repair straight into paint protection film on one timeline — with the refinished panels given their proper cure interval first. Why that sequence matters.

Frequently asked questions
Where can I get a Land Rover repaired after an accident near me?
Enthusiast Auto Works is a Jaguar Land Rover Certified Collision Repair Center at 55B Plain Ave, New Rochelle, NY 10801, serving Westchester County, the Bronx, Manhattan, lower Fairfield County in Connecticut and Bergen County in New Jersey. We offer free pickup and delivery across roughly a forty-mile radius, so the vehicle does not have to be drivable to reach us.
Why does a Land Rover need a certified collision repair centre?
Because the body is aluminium-intensive. Aluminium work-hardens instead of stretching, is joined by rivets and structural adhesive rather than welds, and corrodes galvanically if steel dust contaminates it, so it requires a physically separate repair area, dedicated tooling, calibrated rivet equipment and technicians trained to the factory procedure. A general shop without that separation and equipment cannot return the structure to its designed strength.
Does Enthusiast Auto Works use genuine Land Rover parts?
Yes. Structural repairs on certified vehicles are completed with genuine Jaguar Land Rover parts, which is a requirement of the certification. If your policy or your carrier pushes aftermarket or recycled parts for a given component, we will tell you exactly where that matters and where it does not, in writing, before anything is ordered.
Can my insurance company make me use their shop instead?
No. New York Insurance Law section 2610(a) prohibits an insurer from requiring that repairs be made at a particular shop, and section 2610(b) bars it from even suggesting one unless you expressly ask. We work with every carrier, in network or out, and we handle the estimate and supplement process for you.
Does my Range Rover need ADAS recalibration after a repair?
Almost certainly, if the repair involved the windscreen, front or rear bumper, mirrors, grille, suspension or wheel alignment. Forward camera and radar, surround-view cameras, and blind-spot and cross-traffic radar all have defined recalibration triggers. We calibrate to JLR procedure and provide the documentation with the vehicle.
How long does a Land Rover collision repair take?
It depends entirely on the extent of structural damage and on parts availability, and any shop that gives you a firm number before teardown is guessing. What we can promise is a realistic timeline after the damage analysis and an update whenever it changes, rather than a cheerful estimate that quietly slips.
Do you repair Jaguar as well as Land Rover?
Yes, the certification covers both marques. Jaguar’s aluminium-intensive models present the same repair requirements as the Land Rover range, and the same separated aluminium facility, tooling and training apply.
Can you apply paint protection film after the repair?
Yes, and doing both in one building is a real advantage. Fresh paint keeps releasing solvent after it leaves the booth, and film applied too early can trap that outgassing and fail later. Because we know exactly when each panel was sprayed, we schedule the film to the cure rather than to a guess.
