An R1T or R1S needs a shop that is allowed to touch it
Enthusiast Auto Works is a Rivian Certified Collision Repair Center in New Rochelle, New York, serving Westchester, the Bronx, Manhattan, lower Fairfield County and Bergen County. Rivian runs a deliberately small certified network, and there is a reason for that: an R1T and an R1S are aluminium-intensive, high-voltage, sensor-dense vehicles, and the list of shops equipped to repair one correctly is short.
High voltage changes the first hour of the job
Before a technician opens a panel on a damaged Rivian, the high-voltage system has to be shut down and verified de-energised using the manufacturer’s procedure and insulated tooling. The battery pack is a structural member of the vehicle, not a box bolted underneath it, so any impact near the pack requires a documented assessment before repair planning even starts — and a damaged pack has its own storage, handling and transport requirements.
This is not something a shop improvises. It requires current EV safety training, the right equipment, and a facility set up to hold a vehicle safely while that assessment happens.
Aluminium structure, rivets and adhesive
Like the Land Rover range, Rivian’s body is aluminium-intensive. Aluminium work-hardens rather than stretching, so damage past a certain point cannot be pulled back — the panel or section is replaced. Structural joints are riveted and bonded rather than welded, with adhesives that have a defined cure schedule, and the work has to happen in an area physically separated from steel so that steel particulate cannot settle on bare aluminium and start galvanic corrosion months later.
We hold that separated aluminium environment and the calibrated tooling that goes with it, which is what the certification requires.
The sensors have to be recalibrated, and documented
Rivian’s driver-assistance suite runs on a dense array of cameras, radar and ultrasonic sensors distributed around the vehicle. Replace a windscreen, a bumper cover, a mirror or a fender, or change the ride height or alignment, and the affected systems need recalibration to Rivian procedure before the vehicle goes back on the road.
We calibrate and we hand you the report. A front-end repair that comes back without calibration documentation is not a finished repair, whatever the invoice says.
Genuine parts and factory procedure
Structural repairs on a certified Rivian are completed with genuine Rivian parts, following the repair procedure published for that specific VIN. Our technicians are trained to that procedure and the certification is re-audited rather than granted once.
How the repair runs
- Call us before the car is towed, if you can. We can arrange the tow directly, which keeps the vehicle out of a storage yard billing your claim by the day — and matters more than usual on an EV, where not every tow operator is equipped to move one correctly.
- Teardown and damage analysis, including high-voltage isolation and pack assessment where the impact warrants it.
- We deal with your insurer. We write the estimate, submit supplements after teardown and negotiate directly with your carrier, in network or out. Under New York Insurance Law § 2610 the choice of shop is yours; your insurer cannot require you to use one of its network shops.
- Structural repair, panel, refinish — to Rivian procedure, with genuine parts, in the aluminium-dedicated area.
- Recalibration, road test and final inspection, with documentation.
- Protection afterwards, if you want it. We are also an XPEL Certified Installer, so the vehicle can go from repair into paint protection film on one timeline, with the refinished panels given their proper cure interval first. That sequence matters more than most owners realise — here is why. Launch Edition satin paint in particular cannot be polished, which makes STEALTH film the only real recovery path it has.

Frequently asked questions
Where can I get a Rivian repaired after an accident near me?
Enthusiast Auto Works is a Rivian Certified Collision Repair Center at 55B Plain Ave, New Rochelle, NY 10801, serving Westchester County, the Bronx, Manhattan, lower Fairfield County in Connecticut and Bergen County in New Jersey. We offer free pickup and delivery across roughly a forty-mile radius, and the vehicle does not have to be drivable to reach us.
Why does a Rivian have to go to a certified collision repair center?
Three reasons stack up. The body is aluminium-intensive, so it needs a separated repair area, calibrated rivet equipment and structural adhesive applied to a cure schedule. The high-voltage system has to be shut down and verified de-energised with the manufacturer’s procedure and insulated tooling before any panel comes off. And the battery pack is a structural member, so impacts near it require a documented assessment before repair planning begins. A shop without EV training and an aluminium-dedicated facility cannot do any of that safely.
Does the battery pack need to be inspected after a collision?
If the impact was anywhere near the pack, yes. The pack is structural rather than a bolt-on component, so it is assessed to Rivian procedure and the assessment is documented before a repair plan is written. A damaged pack also carries its own handling, storage and transport requirements.
Will my Rivian need sensor recalibration after the repair?
Almost certainly if the repair touched the windscreen, bumpers, mirrors, fenders, ride height or alignment. The driver-assistance suite runs on cameras, radar and ultrasonic sensors distributed around the vehicle, each with defined recalibration triggers. We calibrate to Rivian procedure and provide the report with the vehicle.
Do you use genuine Rivian parts?
Yes. Structural repairs on a certified vehicle are completed with genuine Rivian parts and follow the repair procedure published for that specific VIN, which is a condition of the certification.
Can my insurance company send my Rivian to a different shop?
No. New York Insurance Law section 2610(a) prohibits an insurer from requiring repairs at a particular shop, and section 2610(b) bars it from suggesting one unless you expressly ask. We work with every carrier, in network or out, and handle the estimate and supplement process for you.
Can you apply paint protection film to a Rivian after the repair?
Yes. We are an XPEL Certified Installer as well as a Rivian Certified Collision Repair Center, so the vehicle can move from repair into film on one timeline. Because we know exactly when each panel was sprayed, the film goes on after the paint has properly cured rather than on a guess. Launch Edition satin paint cannot be polished, so STEALTH film is the only real recovery path that finish has.
How long does a Rivian collision repair take?
It depends on the extent of structural damage and on parts availability, and any shop quoting a firm number before teardown is guessing. You will get a realistic timeline after the damage analysis, and an update whenever it changes.
